CD burners are very cheap, that are now fixed. Make sure that the correct cable and the manual from the CD and the PC provided. With DVD recorders at $ 29.00, is a waste of time to try a repair if it does not work correctly. If you have a new go to Best Buy, or online newegg.com.

If the cables are properly connected inside the case, I assume the drive is dead. You can have a quite nice though for only $ 25 on Newegg.
